Each model among the three series of Samsung’s edge- lit LED- based LCD lineup measures just 1. 2 inches thick, thanks to that LED lighting system, which is also responsible for the TVs’ brilliant energy effectiveness. The UNB7000 series is the middle child by way of rate and features of the three; yet, it includes buckets of add- ons, most of them interactive, along with wide-ranging picture adjustments including a cool new tweakable dejudder mode. In our performance testing, we encountered picture quality trade- offs caused by the LED system, namely less- than- perfect uniformity and off- angle viewing, including the backlights’ somewhat distracting fluctuations. These issues keep the UNB7000 series from earning our highest accolades for performance, but in terms of design and features, the more costly televisions set a standard that will be tough to beat. It comes in a 55- inch Samsung UN55B7000.

The 55- inch Samsung UN55B6000 provides somewhat deep black levels; accurate color; very good dejudder processing; brilliant styling with 1. 2- inch thick panel; huge picture controls; extremely energy- efficient.

However it is over-priced, less- uniform screen than other LCDs, poor off- angle viewing, backlight fluctuates with program brightness, dark areas tinged bluer, shiny screen can cause reflections in bright rooms. It is also noteworthy that red frame isn’t for everyone.

Though it brings fine picture quality, except for a small number of flaws, the ultrathin 55- inch Samsung UN55B6000 will appeal mainly to type seekers who will not mind spending more money.

Deeper black levels than any HDTV available aside from Pioneer Kuro; solid shadow detail; lowered blooming compared with other local dimming LED- based LCDs; accurate, highly saturated color; splendid video processing with adjustable dejudder; numerous picture adjustments; huge interactive possesses including Yahoo widgets; beautiful styling with 1. 6- inch deep panel; extremely energy efficient.

Unfortunately it is over-priced; bad off- angle viewing; blooming effects; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; glossy screen reflects ambient light.

It charges a mint, but Samsung’s local dimming, LED- based UNB8500 series provides the best picture quality of any LCD we’ve tested.
